Vegans, “Meeting the Audience Where They’re at” When Speaking on Non-Vegan Podcasts

Professionals Unplugged Podcast

I had a great discussion with my colleague Utkarsh Shukla who is keen to bring different people onto his podcast.

Most of the podcasts I appear on are vegan podcasts. However, this week I was invited to speak on the Professionals Unplugged Podcast. This is a show that inspiring stories of professionals from around the world.

It’s a short interview and yet a reminder of “Meeting One’s Audience Where They’re At” when talking about one’s passion and life’s work – which for me, at this stage in my life, is about animal liberation and veganism.

It’s so easy for someone invited to advocate to a ‘presumably’ non-vegan audience, to provide too much information (particularly graphic information), and overwhelm the audience. I think it’s also disrespectful to the podcast host, who is trusting the guest to provide something of real value to their audience.

So in this short 30-min podcast, I aimed to tell something about my journey from Organisational Psychologist, Management Consultant, University Academic, toVegan Psychologist and Vystopia Transformation Coach.

I also told a funny story (when asked) in the last 5 mins of my work in Israel in the 1990s.

I do have one small regret.

I do wish i had clarified more about my former vegetarianism and how woefully inadequate I discovered it was, if i didn’t want to contribute to animal suffering through eating eggs and dairy. I will be able to address this when i am next interviewed.

Question for You
I hope you enjoy this podcast, and if vegan, ask yourself when next asked to speak on a podcast, at a meeting, in a social gathering:

“How can I ‘speak in the language’ the listeners will hear, to provide chinks of consciousness to discover that veganism is not a diet!”
